ABOUT THE PROJECT

PROJECT LOCATION

The ARAUCO Particleboard Plant site is located off of West Four Mile Road, which features a business corridor of existing manufacturing operations. The ARAUCO plant property comprises 640 acres situated approximately five miles south of downtown Grayling. ARAUCO plans to utilize only 150 acres, or 25% of this acreage for the plant operations, which will be located on the far west side of the property (near the I-75 exit ramp) in order to optimize the logistics for transporting raw materials and finished panels.

The remaining 75% of the ARAUCO land will remain forested. Please note that out of concern for both public and ARAUCO employee safety, no hunting or trespassing will be allowed on our property.

Site Preparation and Operations Update
The ARAUCO Grayling Particleboard Plant project is now in the engineering and design phase. The plant footprint acreage has been cleared of trees and debris and the property boundaries are in process of getting fenced and secured. Depending on the weather, construction will most likely begin in the spring of 2017. We are gratified that that state of Michigan has approved and completed our environmental permits, and look forward to sharing with the community the next steps toward building this state-of-the-art facility. Current estimated timeframe for the plant construction completion is late 2018. At that time, ARAUCO plans to hold an open house tour to showcase the facility and thank the community for its cooperation and support.

Plant Complex Overview
The plant complex itself will consist of residual wood and log handling systems and a wood storage facility. The main particleboard manufacturing facility will encompass wood flakers and screeners, forming machines, dryers as the particleboard manufacturing process is a dry one that does not require huge amounts of water and actually is designed to remove water from the wood cells. Plant operations also will feature value-added paper impregnation and lamination lines to produce fully complete decorative panels for Arauco’s customers.

Once complete, the ARAUCO Grayling Particleboard Plant will be the largest ‘continuous’ single-line particleboard press in North America at 52 meters (170 feet). There are larger producing plants, but they have multiple lines.
